Polymeric Coatings

Polymeric Coatings

Polymeric Coatings are coatings or paint which are made with polymers which provide advanced protection from corrosion. The aim is to provide the surface being coated with the following functions:

  • To protect the item from corrosive environments
  • To improve the Items Appearance
  • To provide Electrical Insulation

Many of the ingredients used in these coating are polymers which are organic on origin. These fall into different classifications such as paint, varnishes, enamel, lacquer and shellac. Many common coatings are Latexes. A latex is a stable suspension of small insoluble particles dispersed in water. These have become popular over the years because they don’t contain large quantities of organic solvents that are emitted into the environments. This means that they have low volatile organic compound emissions. VOC’s react in the atmosphere to produce smog

Below is a link to Para Tech Coatings Ltd. It is a company which use parylene coatings to protect surfaces. The reason why these are good to use are because they protect against solvents and us hydrophobicand is biocompatible. Another advantage to it is that it has a low coefficient to friction
